General Objective of the CE Committee: To equip each person, child and adult, in the congregation with sufficient knowledge of the Bible, the doctrine, and purpose of the church; to enable each person to grow in the Christian faith, to function as an active, knowledgeable member and to share his faith competently with others.
Under the guidance of the Session, the CE committee directs and supports many services at New Sterling. The Sunday School, Nursery, Children's Church, and VBS programs are our main focus. Additionally, the CE committee provides Bible study curriculum guidance to small groups and individuals and tries to maintain a small library and a list of recommended study material.
Nursery
I (0-2 years)A crib and toddler nursery is provided during all worship
services. Nursery care is also provided for children age two
and under during the Sunday school hour. 'Children's Church' is
provided for children age three to six during Sunday morning worship.
Nursery
II - Elementary The current curriculum is published by Great Commission
Publications. Their Show
Me Jesus curriculum is designed to help the student grow
in Biblical knowledge and learn how to live out their faith in God's
world.
Junior
High (grades 7-9)Again we use curriculum published by Great Commission Publications. The Show Me Jesus - Youth curriculum builds on the Bible's unifying theme of God's covenant. Students trace the development of the covenant from Genesis to Revelation and discover God's unfolding plan, fulfilled by Jesus, to save his people.
Senior
High (grades 10-12)For the senior high students we use a mix of studies from Great Commission Publications and others to reinforce earlier lessons and build the students character.
Adults choose from three offered classes each quarter. The courses run 13 weeks and choices usually include 1) A book of the Bible, 2) The ARP Adult Quarterly, and 3) a 'life application' study.
Friendship Class - The Book of Jeremiah taught by Tony Harper. Imagine living in a place where truth is in the eye of the beholder; a society with eroding standards. Sound familiar? This is not a new dilemma. The prophet Jeremiah was called to take a public and unpopular stand for God’s truth. His story will inspire you and call on you to stand firm in your faith and values.
Chapel Class - Adult Quarterly taught by David Sides. Dr. Mark Ross is the new Quarterly editor and his topic this quarter is The Lordship of Christ. With lesson topics such as Spiritual Blessings in Jesus Christ, One in Jesus Christ, Proclaiming Christ and Gaining in Christ, it is bound to be a wonderful time of study and fulfillment.
Pastor Tim's Class - Christians Living in a Secular World taught by Pastor Tim – Living out our faith at work or school or in the marketplace or life in general can be one of the greatest day-to-day challenges Christians face. It’s the real world and most believers face tough issues out there: difficult associates/friends, acting ethically when others compromise, or apathy that results in a disconnection. We will discuss a biblically based model for dealing with these stresses.
Friendship Class - Tony Harper is leading us through Proverbs.
Chapel Class - David Sides is teaching from the ARP Adult Quarterly.
Pastor Tim's Class - Pastor Tim is addressing the theology within The Shack.
